Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, the newly decorated African footballer of the year travelled back to his country to present his award to the President and people of his country on Friday.
Aubameyang who was declared Africa's best footballer of 2015 at a glittering awards night in the Nigerian capital, Abuja on Thursday night, met with President Ali Bongo Ondimba to showcase his new trophy.
The Borrussia Dortmund striker who has scored 18 goals in 17 Bundesliga games this season, earned 143 points in a poll of African coaches, seven more than Manchester City's Yaya Toure who had won all four previous titles. Ghana deputy captain and Swansea City forward, Andre Ayew was third on 112 points.
Aubameyang dedicated his award to his country and Gabon's President Ali Bongo Ondimba was among the first to congratulate him.
"His genius is a major asset for the Panthers in preparation for the next Africa Cup of Nations," said Bongo. Gabon will host the next next Africa Cup of Nations in 2017.
The player was full of gratitude for the home support and wasted no time at all in turning up in his country barely 24 hours after winning the top award to show appreciation and celebrate with his people.
"We have good players and a good national team in Gabon," declared Aubameyang, the first Gabonese to win the big gong.
