Michael Essien looking forward to Indonesian ‘experience’

The Ghanaian international is in confident mode ahead of the start of the Indonesian league.

Essien joined the Indonesian club on a free transfer earlier in March, but has had to wait for his unveiling following a late schedule for the start of the league.

The midfielder was finally unveiled on Thursday, with fans of the club given the chance to see their new signing.

And the former Chelsea and AC Milan anchorman has iterated his readiness ahead of the start of the league season.

The 34-year-old was mobbed at the airport upon arrival in Indonesia by a huge fan base, and he insists his sole focus is to take the club to new heights.

“I’m happy to be here. You know I came here before and I saw the fans and everyone at the club has been nice to me. So I’m happy,” Essien told the club’s YouTube channel.

“The trip [to Indonesia] is okay; it is very far though. But I made it, so I am happy.

“I don’t know very much [about the Indonesian league], but I am here to experience it. So I am looking forward to the league here [in Indonesia], and hopefully Bandung will do something this year.”

Essien last played for Greek giants Panathinaikos, but was released after he was plagued by niggling injuries throughout his stay.

The former Real Madrid midfielder is believed to have signed a one year deal with Persib Bandung with a reported net of £800,000 per year.
