Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kwesi Nyantakyi was part of a delegation sent by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to support football legend George Oppong Weah as he was sworn in as Liberia president.
The ex-AC Milan and Chelsea star was sworn in as Liberia’s latest president on Monday, January 22, 2018, following his victory in the general elections held last year.
A host of big name personalities graced the ceremony, held at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex, in Monrovia.
CAF was not left out, as the continent’s football governing body sent an eight-man delegation to support Weah on the historic.
A contingent lead by CAF president Ahmad Ahmad made sure the football community was well represented at the ex-footballer’s swearing in ceremony.
Others included GFA boss Nyantakyi, Nigeria FA president Amaju Pinnick, Zambia’s Kalusha Bwalya, Tony Baffoe and other members of the CAF Executive Committee.
Weah takes over from President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf as Liberia president, having started his political career in 2002 after retiring from football.
The 51-year-old was the first, and so far only, African footballer to have ever won the Ballon d’Or after lifting the prestigious individual award back in 1995.
That same year, he was adjudged the World Best Player after playing a key role in AC Milan’s Champions League triumph.
