Residents of Tema Newtown and communities located near the Turkish Karpowership have called for its relocation on grounds of massive pollution that is detrimental to their health.
They have therefore threatened to stage a demonstration against management of the power ship if nothing is done to stop the pollution.
Some of the residents of the community told the media that several efforts to get the management of the power ship and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to resolve the matter has yielded no results, Â so they have been left with no option than to embark on a protest.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Tema East Constituency, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover confirmed the problem to the Daily Guide stating that the Karpowership is causing a lot of destruction to the fauna, flora and lives of people in his constituency, adding that people are unable to go to the beach anymore.
“The fumes, the smoke that is coming out from the power generation comes straight to our surroundings and places of relaxÂation making it difficult for people to relax."
The MP stressed that he will not hesitate to take legal action against all regulatory bodies who are mandated to check and stop the situation.
The Karpowership was brought in November 2016 to augment the country’s supply in the face of the country’s energy crisis.
It proÂduces 210 MW of uninÂterrupted electrical energy running on low sulphur heavy fuel oil.
