Speaker blasts MPs after meeting empty seats in parliament

There were less than five members in Parliament when proceedings for the day began.

Work began with the adoption of the official report but the Member of Parliament for Bongo Constituency Edward Bawa protested the number of legislators present.

He argued that allowing proceedings to go on was going to be an infraction on Standing Order 48 of the House.

He, therefore, wanted the House to adjourn as there was no quorum formed.

Prof Oquaye who was also disappointed urged leaders of the House to get members on the floor to do business on time.

The Speaker, however, said that work must go on, adding that: “Our people who pay us expect that work should be done, so let us at least take the opportunity to see how we can contain the situation to ameliorate the problem rather than taking advantage of it and going home.”
