Real Madrid launched their new strips on Thursday morning as Zinedine Zidane's outfit look to become the first side in history to defend the Champions League.

Barcelona also released their new jersey on Thursday, choosing to blend together the famous red and blue home colours for the first time to produce a deep purple for their new away shirt for the 2016/17 season while Real have opted for their popular colour again.

The last time Real wore purple was in 2010-11 when they won the Copa del Rey, finished second in La Liga and lost to Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals.

As well as the geometric pattern on the torso of Barcelona's new shirt, the away kit features a contemporary collar with ‘Barca’ knit on the reverse and eye-catching pink socks.

The replica shirts will set you back £65 with children's versions coming in a at £28.

The strip is based on Nike's Vapor kit template which is already used for Barca's home kit as well as the brand's Copa America and Euro 2016 offerings.

The 'Vapor Match' version, modelled by Andres Iniesta, Gerard Pique, Neymar, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez in publicity shots, is available at £100.

Andres Iniesta is a big fan of the new design believing it to make the players feel faster.

“The fusion of the traditional red and blue makes this shirt fresh and striking, but at the same time connected with our history.
