The victim's mother has been arrested by the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, on Wednesday after a "good Samaritan" reported the incident to the Women Affairs and Social Development office.
It was gathered that the suspect asked her daughter to take care of her two siblings while she went out to attend to her business, news website Dailytrust reports.
However, when she returned, she found out her 8-year-old daughter had left for their neighbor's house to watch a TV series, leaving her younger siblings unattended to.
She became agitated, went into her house, got petrol and poured it on the girl before setting her ablaze as punishment.
The girl is now recuperating at the emergency unit of a specialist hospital in Kaduna.
Meanwhile Kuduna State officials say they are carrying out investigations on the case and that the woman is in NSCDC's custody.
The commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development in Kaduna, Hajiya Hafsat Baba, is quoted by the Dailytrust as describing the incident as "shocking and unimaginable."
“A good Samaritan reported the case to my ministry and we swung into action immediately. The mother is presently in the custody of the NSCDC for investigation,” she added.
