Not able to face his community after being accused and harangued of witchcraft, a middle aged man, Joseph Ushie, an indigene of Bebuagbong in Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River State, decided to take the easy way out by killing himself.
It was gathered that Ushie's problems began when his only brother, Emmanuel, was involved in a hit-and-run incident in Abuja on July 3, 2015, where he died before he could be rushed to the hospital.
But when news of the death of Emmanuel got to the village, the villagers accused the elderly Ushie of being behind the death of his sibling, claiming they had consulted a soothsayer who told them so.
The claim was that Emmanuel was killed by his father in connivance with his only brother, Joseph, through metaphysical power.
Not done, the villagers then appointed a jury that came up with the decision to banish Joseph from the village, which forced him to commit suicide by taking poison.
Police sources at Obudu Police Division say the female soothsayer and members of the jury have been arrested.
