A new born baby boy, flushed down a train toilet has been rescued Saturday by sweepers cleaning the train in Amritsar, a city in the northwestern Indian state of Punjab.
The new-born was recovered from the Amritsar-Howrah Express train by sweepers on Saturday afternoon when the train stopped for cleaning, media reports in India say.
The baby was fully naked and had been sought to be strangulated with a dupatta (traditional stole) when he was pulled out from the toilet by the sweepers at the washing platform, the hindustantimes reports.
The baby is being treated Sunday at the Amritsar Civil Hospital, officials said.

"When the baby was admitted his body was shivering due to cold. We, immediately, placed him in a heater to warm him. Four doctors, specialized in children, have been working to cure the baby, who is now out of danger. It seems the baby is of one day old,” Dr Sandeep at the civil hospital said.
Meanwhile, the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Punjab authorities have commenced investigations.
CCTV footages at railway stations were being examined to ascertain who was behind the act.
The sweepers have told the GRP that a 'dupatta' was found tied around the neck of the infant prompting suspicion that it was done in order to strangulate it before flushing it down the toilet, Indiatoday reports.
However, the baby did not fall from the train toilet.
Station house officer (SHO) of Amritsar GRP, Balbir Singh, said the baby's lucky survival has left them stunned.
