Artist's work made accessible for visually impaired visitors

A special program at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam is helping its visually impaired visitors experience the artist's work.

The interactive guided tour which is called 'Feeling Van Gogh' has been developed with financial support from the Oogfonds (the Eye Fund).

Feeling Van Gogh is an interactive guided tour including a workshop involving various senses.

Five times a year, specially trained tour guides take the visitors on a tour through the museum, explaining Van Gogh’s story by means of the paintings belonging to the permanent collection.

"It’s an unbelievable sensation. I’m feeling this painting down to the detail of each fingernail." - Pedro González, who has been blind for over 40 years, told The New York Times.
