Kwesi Appiah’s contract to be extended- Normalisation Committee
The former Black Stars skipper replaced Avram Grant on his return as coach of Ghana in 2017.
Despite, failing to produce the magic to qualify Ghana for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, he has guided the four times champions of Africa to book a place in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations to be staged in Egypt.
The Normalisation Committee that is in charge of football in the country has confirmed reports that James Kwesi Appiah’s contract will be renewed when it runs out in April.
“There has been the need to renew coach Kwesi Appiah’s contract,” Dan Kwaku Yeboah told Citi FM.
“Primarily because at the time he was being signed as the Black Stars coach he was given a two year contract with the arrangement that the Afcon will be played in January 2019.”
“Fortunately or unfortunately it has been shifted to June so if we don’t renew his contract it will mean that by June contractually he will not be an employee of the Ghana Football Association so there is the need to renew.”
“There have been preliminary meetings between Coach Kwesi Appiah,Dr Kofi Amoah and Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah.”
“The details are yet to be made public because it has not been finalized yet,” Spokesperson for the Normalization Committee Dan Kweku Yeboah revealed”.
Kwesi Appiah was tasked to win AFCON 2019 after signing a two year deal with the Ghana Football Association in 2017.
