Alvarez - 46-1-1 throughout his career - will defend his belt against Brit Khan in Las Vegas on May 7, but unbeaten IBF and WBA champion Golovkin looms.

Kazakh boxer Golovkin is mandatory challenger for the WBC title.

But while a blockbuster showdown with Golovkin is in his future plans, Alvarez is solely focused on Khan, who has never fought above welterweight previously.

"He's a fighter that's very fast. He's explosive, I'm training 100 per cent because I don't like surprises," Alvarez said of Khan.

"I never underestimate anyone in the ring because anything can happen. My job is to be prepared for the best possible fighter so I can give a great performance.

"[Golovkin] is definitely in my future plans. That's the fight I want. I want to give that to the fans. I'm just not sure when.

"Right now I'm focused on Amir Khan. That's my fight.

"I want to fight three times this year. That's my plan, but anything can happen in this fight."
