CrossFit YouTuber Craig Richey , a.k.a. TeamRICHEY , decided that it would be a good idea to challenge Fraser, one of the most dominant athletes in the history of the sport, to a handstand pushup contest. Richey mentions that he's been doing this workout consistently for about six monthsbut remember, he's about to face off against the World's Fittest Man. He's got the odds stacked against him from the outset.

The workout is only two sets, but it packs in a ton of volume.

  • 50 strict handstand pushups (HSPU) for time
  • Rest 3 minutes
  • 30 strict handstand pushups

Richey recommends less experienced CrossFitters to sub in kipping handstand pushups , or even pushups. Unless you're trying for a challenge, though, we don't recommend that you try this one out at home, especially if you have any issues with your shoulders.

The pair start off strong, heads thumping the ground with each rep. (Because after all, it doesn't count in CrossFit unless your head touches the floor .) But unfortunately, Richey doesn't even come close. He finishes the 50 strict reps in 1 minute, 50 seconds, then the 30 strict in 1 minute, 15 seconds. Fraser, meanwhile beasted through both sets unbroken (without coming down from the handstand to reset), finishing the first in 59 seconds and the second in just 37 seconds. Unsurprisingly, the champ didn't go down.

Richey actually came in third for the daytwo-time World's Fittest Woman Katrin Davidsdottir was also taking the challenge off-camera, and tied Richey with 1 minute, 50 seconds for the set of 50, then bested him in the set of 30 with a time of 1 minute, 3 seconds. (Reigning World's Fittest Woman Tia-Clair Toomey also dropped by, so at least Richey was in world-class company.)

You'll be wise to work your way up to handstand pushups slowly. If you're looking to start by mastering your handstand , we've got you covered. CrossFit coach and former USA National Gymnastics champ David Durante told Men's Health that it's all about three things: strength, stability and position.

"I like to think of a well-rounded handstand as this triumvirate where strength, stability, and position are all worked on in their own specific needs," says Durante.
