The Minnesota Wild have sacked head coach Mike Yeo after the team suffered a 13th loss in their last 14 NHL games on Saturday.

The Wild were beaten 4-2 by the Boston Bruins at the Xcel Energy Centre which spelled the end for the 42-year-old.

Yeo had been in charge at Minnesota for the past five seasons, guiding the team to the Stanley Cup play-offs for the last three seasons.

The coach finished at the Wild with a regular season record of 173-132-44.

The news was confirmed on their official website on Saturday by Minnesota general manager Chuck Fletcher.

"I would like to thank Mike for the hard work and dedication he provided behind the bench for the Minnesota Wild organisation and wish him the best in the future," Fletcher said.

The Wild are sixth in the Central Division and are on a run of eight consecutive defeats.
