He beat stiff competition from his label mate KiDi, Amanda Malela, Blanche Baily, DJ Zoumanto, Gaz Mawete, King Promise, Ko-C, Lily, Lyna Mahyem and Tamy to clinch the prestigious award.

Kuami Eugene faced heavy criticism from Ghanaian music lovers in February this year for allegedly 'stealing' Malian musician, Sidiki Diabaté’s 2016 hit single, "Fais moi Confiance".

He denied the allegations saying: "It’s not the same, it’s a melody and you can’t say you own a melody. It’s about creativity and not what people say. At the end of the day, they’re loving the song, go and check the comments. It’s a beautiful song."

The song has garnered over 5 million views on music streaming site, YouTube, so far.
