Billionaire philanthropist and real estate mogul, Conrad Prebys has thrown his weight behind cancer research.
The 81 year old, donated $100m to Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute, a non-profit organisation in in La Jolla, California, for the research on new drugs to fight cancer and other diseases.
Observers say this is not the first time he has donated to the institute. He recently donated $11 million to the institute, for a centre that screens chemical compounds to find potential sources for new medicines.
According to Prebys, “I’m making more money than I ever have in my life, and I don’t have use for money. If I can reduce suffering, reduce the time from the workbench to the hospital bed, it doesn’t get much better than that for me.”
Speaking on the donation, Perry Nisen, the Sanford Burnham Prebys Institute CEO said the donation will go a long way to help the institute’s research, describing the gift as enormous.
