Domestic violence offenders to wear device on ankles

The Australian government has recommended the use of GPS tracking devices, by domestic violence offenders.

In a bid to curb the widespread issue of domestic violence, Prime Minister Tony Abbott has lent his weight to the war against domestic violence.

Prime minister Abbot said: "It is completely unacceptable, it is a scourge, it has got to end, and yes we should be prepared to look at all sorts of new initiatives and new measures, particularly to deal with repeat offenders."

Speaking on the issue, Rosie Batty, a family violence campaigner, said: "No matter where you live, family violence exists in every pocket of every neighbourhood.”

The devices, which will be worn on the ankle, by offenders, will monitor their movements.
