Rahman who was attacked close to his home in Dhaka's Begunbari area has been described by police as a "fundamentalist blogger" linked to Islamist group Hizb ut-Tahrir, which is banned in Bangladesh.
BBC reports that 2 students at an Islamic seminary have been arrested in connection to the attack.
The stab incident comes a month after US-based writer, Avijit Roy, who had criticised religious intolerance, was killed in a machete attack while he was visiting Dhaka.
