The Transport minister-designate, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, has promised to clear all middlemen from the premises of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA).

These middlemen are often referred to as ‘Goro Boys’. They often help vehicle license applicants to acquire their documents without going through the legally stipulated process for a fee. Sometimes they also issue the applicants with fake vehicle documents and licenses.

This has been a challenge the DVLA has been battling with over the years.

The DVLA has developed several strategies to fight this menace. This includes the introduction of the electronic license regime.

But these middlemen have also adopted new measures to help the would-be applicants who failed the computerised test by charging them fees to enable them to write the exams for them.

The transport minister-designate described this trend as a worrying one and promised to do all within his power to rid the DVLA of ‘gorro boys’.

“The issue of ‘Goro Boys” is an issue that confronts every service seeker who goes to the DVLA to seek their service. Mr Chairman…so long as there is a human interface in doing some of this business,  it will create an avenue for them,” he told the committee.

He said this can be done only if all the activities of the DVLA are automated.
