Former President John Rawlings is urging Metropolitan, Municipal and District assemblies to make it a habit to police drainages in their various communities in order to prevent people from choking them with garbage.

Speaking to the media during an inspection tour of flood areas in Kumasi in the Ashanti region, Mr. Rawlings advised the populace to desist from throwing wastes into gutters.
“If the government is going to invest in dredging and cleaning up the drain, I think it’s important that we keep it that way and use as a rubbish dump.
“You (assemblies) have to police it yourselves. You have to let the community know that they owe it to themselves,” he said.
