Speaking to the Ghanaian community in Germany ahead of the G-20 summit, he said illegal mining, popularly known as ‘galamsey’ will destroy Ghanaians if it is does not come to an end.

President Akufo-Addo has reiterated his fight for illegal mining, saying he will not allow it to destroy the country’s water bodies and forest reserves.

“It will devour all of us, therefore I have called for a halt to it,” Akufo-Addo stated.

He however mentioned that, from all indication, it was obvious of the fact that a lot of the youth are into it as a result of unemployment.

According to him, his government is looking and insisting on other alternative methods of livelihood for those involved in the galamsey act.

“I am very lucky to have first class team of people who are working with me with all seriousness and commitment for one purpose,” President Akufo-Addo emphasized.

Meanwhile, the president noted that he will do whatever it takes to curb this menace and the good people of Ghana must take it serious.
