Jen Fitzpatrick, Google Vice-President of Engineering announced that Google Maps will be able to work offline soon.

He made the announcement, at the Google I/O developer conference.

He said the new development, will enable users in areas where internet service is scarce, to access the app.

Google says the app will be updated later this year.
