Ghana football has no plan - Sammy Kuffour
Kuffour - who is now a pundit on Supersports - says it is disappointing to think that there are no standby players to replace the current crop when they eventually phase out.
Ghana has struggled to win the Africa Cup of Nations since 1982, and the country's woes were deepened when they were again booted out of the tournament by Cameroon on Thursday.
Ghana coach Avram Grant has come in for criticisms from a large section of the public for refusing to promote youth players and not encouraging competition in the Black Stars squad.
Former Bayern Munchen defender Samuel Kuffour has also had his take on the matter.
According to him, Ghana football is currently being run without and plan, insisting the nation might not even make to the next tournament if this trend continues.
“What is our plan? What is our philosophy? We don’t have it," Kuffour fumed while on punditry duties with Supersports.
"We always depend on Asamoah Gyan, so when he is injured what are we going to do? Can we always depend on Dede Ayew? When he is also injured what are we going to do? It’s not done anywhere. You need to have a back-up, but we don’t have a back-up in our country.
“There is no player right now that you can tell me is coming up after Dede Ayew, Asamoah Gyan, Jordan [Ayew] and [Thomas] Partey [are gone]. We don’t have it so the next AFCON I’m worried."
Ghana is still chasing a first Africa Cup of Nations trophy since 1982, and the latest setback will come as a big blow, especially after finishing as runners-up in 2015.
