According to Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, the midfielder suffered a set back in his recovery from a fractured ankle.

The England international was set to return from an injury layoff after the international break but Wenger, ahead of the league clash with Stoke City, revealed that Wilshere has not fully recovered.

"I have not seen Jack Wilshere in the last two or three days," Wenger said in a press conference.

"He is progressing slowly and I can’t tell you much more about it. I will talk with my medical staff today.

"It is slower than expected as I expected him to be back and available after the break but unfortunately he will not be available for Saturday.

"He had a little setback and I have to know about it but I can’t tell you much more as I have no medical information."

Though it was expected that Wilshere will be out for just a month, reports have revealed that the decision has now been taken that an operation is needed to properly correct the problem after further examination.
