The Dutch international goalkeeper got the season ending injury during Netherland’s 2-1 win over Kazakhstan on Saturday, October 10.

Krul was in agony after falling awkwardly on the artificial turf after 80 minutes and scans later revealed that he will be out of the season with a cruciate ligament.

The injury brings more headache for Newcastle under fire manager  Steve McClaren, with No 2 goalkeeper Karl Darlow also out with a foot injury.

Republic of Ireland international Rob Elliot is in line to deputise in Krul's absence.
