Holidays are for students, not teachers – GES tells JHS teachers

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has warned Junior High School teachers within the Daffiama-Bussie-Issa District against going on Easter holiday break.

Holidays are for students, not teachers – GES tells JHS teachers

A letter from the District Director of Education, Simon G. Bagbio, said all teachers are to remain at post in their respective schools during the holidays.

This, he said, is to ensure that the final year JHS students are well prepped for the upcoming Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The Daffiama-Bussie-Issa District, which is in the Upper West region, has often recorded poor academic performances by students at the basic level.

Also, there is a high level of school dropouts in the district, with authorities taking steps to mitigate the situation.

The letter from District Director of Education said teachers who fail to adhere to this directive will be sanctioned.

According to him, holidays are actually meant for students and not teachers.

“Any teacher within the JHS category who frowns upon this directive shall be handled accordingly as the holidays are actually meant for the pupils and not teachers,” Mr. Bagbio stated.
