Students of Klo-Agogo SHS share dining hall with goats

Students of Students of Klo-Agogo share the school's dining hall with goats and fowls.

Unfortunately, that is the exact situation at the Klo-Agogo Senior High School (SHS) in the Yilo Krobo District of the Eastern Region, where students share their dining hall with animals.

According to a report by the Daily Heritage, the school lacks a proper dining hall, with students forced to share the little space with goats who come to grace at the ground.

The Klo-Agogo SHS was established 26 years ago and currently has a student population of 742. Out of that number, 504 are boarders with the rest being day students.

The school’s dining hall, though, is in a very deplorable state, having also been used as assembly hall and for other social gatherings.

The Daily Heritage reports that it is common to see goats and fowls invading the hall during breakfast and lunch times for students.

Some of these animals also sometimes ease themselves on the dining hall tables, leaving students frustrated during dining hours.

That, coupled with the lack of tables and chairs at the hall, means students of Klo-Agogo SHS struggle for space when it’s time for dining.

“The animals always pass, make noise and mess the whole place and sometimes join the students in the classroom. We always have to chase them. This is a clear destruction to our activities,” headmaster of the school, John Mensah Dzokoto, lamented in an interview with the Daily Heritage.

He added that the situation is making it difficult for students to engage in effective learning. According to him, the situation needs urgent attention in order to cater for the needs of students.

He further appealed to the government and other stakeholders to come to the rescue of the school by providing desks and beds to accommodate students.
