Black Stars vice-captain offered to play for Liverpool for free

This was how far Black Stars vice-captain Andre Ayew was willing to go to play for English Premier League club Liverpool

The Ghanaian player prior to his transfer move to Welsh club Swansea City from French Ligue 1 side Olympique Marseille asked to play for Liverpool without wages until the January transfer window as a means to convince the Reds to sign him.

Ayew was a free agent then with his contract at Olympique Marseille having run out meaning Liverpool were not going to pay anything for six months and could still have the Ghana international playing for them.

The Reds however looked at other options signing Christian Benteke, Danny Ings and Divock Origi.

Andre Ayew is a huge Liverpool fan and current Anfield boss Jurgen Klopp during his time at Borussia Dortmund made a £7 million bid for the former Olympique Marseille player before his contract with the French club run out.

The Black Stars vice-captain however rejected the move because he wanted to play in the English Premier League.

Mark McKay of ExcelFoot who was part of the negotiations on Ayew's transfer move to Swansea City said:

"It has always been Andre's dream to play for Liverpool but unfortunately they opted to pursue other targets at the time."

Andre Ayew has impressed in the Premier League since joining Swansea City. The Ghanaian player who scored on his debut against champions Chelsea was a subject of transfer interest in the January transfer window but Swansea stood their grounds to keep him.

In the English Premier League game on Sunday, Andre Ayew scored a brace to send Liverpool packing from the Liberty Stadium as his Swansea City side won 3-1.
