A year-and-half old child was on Wednesday burnt to death after a cylinder exploded in a wooden structure in which she slept at Palm wine Junction near La in Accra.

The cause of the fire is yet to be known. However, reports say the fire broke about 1.00 pm after a young girl in whose care the child was entrusted tried to cook with a gas stove in a kitchen next to where the baby slept.

The mother of the deceased was said not to be around when the incident occurred.

Personnel from the Fire Service were at the scene to douse the blaze.
