Nana Akufo-Addo, flag bearer of the party and his running mate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will address the news conference.
The leadership of the New Patriotic Party will on Tuesday, August 18, 2015, make a case to the nation on the need for the Electoral Commission to compile a new voters’ register for the 2016 general elections.
Dr. Bawumia will make a presentation sharing the evidence gathered by the party's investigation team which demonstrates why the current voters’ register is fundamentally flawed and must be changed in order to guarantee a fair playing field for credible elections next year.
The NPP is pushing an agenda to get the voters' register expunged and replaced with a new one. The party has begun garnering the support of other political parties to join them in their course.
The Convention Peoples Party CPP has so far indicated its readiness to join the NPP in this fight.
The general secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, on the other hand, has downplayed the NPP's move.
He has accused the NPP of trying to cause confusion with their demand. He claimed the NPP's calculation to arrive at a bloated register is faulty. He said "in 2010 the pollution was around 25 million, and the NPP says the 2012 voters register was 14 million.
"According the population census half of the population are 18 years and above. So if half of the population is above 18 years, and the population of Ghana is 25 million, if you divide the population figure by two you will get 12.5 million so it means the voters' register is bloated." The NDC's general secretary said of Okay Fm.
