Addressing the stakeholders present at the launch, Samira Bawumia said child abuse is very crucial to the development of any child hence the reason why children must be protected.
“Child abuse is a pertinent issue in child development… there is never a good justification for child abuse.”
She added that even though all stakeholders have a role to play, the family must ensure children live in safe environments in order for them to grow peacefully.
“Our communities and homes should be safe for children,” she said.
The Minister of Local Government Hajia Alima Mahama who was also present at the launch said children are no longer the future but rather they are “the future and the now.”
She said her Ministry has engaged about 1500 district officials to help educate others on the CP Social Drive and also get more people to pledge to GACA.
The Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection Otiko Afisa Djaba also condemned child abuse and called on parents to take their role seriously.
“Parents must take their role seriously. We are too busy chasing wealth.”
She explained that this is not to say parents should not work for money but rather they must make sure they also spend quality time with their children in order to know what goes on in the child’s life.
