Namibian boxer reportedly arrested for sexual assault in Olympic Village

Police in Rio de Janeiro say the Namibian boxer attempted to force himself on a housekeeper.

According to a report by Al Jazeera’s Gabriel Elizondo, police in Rio de Janeiro say the 22-year-old light welterweight attempted to force himself on the housekeeper.

In a tweet from Gabriel Elizondo, the Al Jazeera reporter wrote:

“JUST IN: Jonas Junius, Olympic boxer from Namibia, arrested for attempted sex assault of a housekeeper in the Olympic Village, police say”

Jonas Junius is expected to be transferred to Rio’s Bangu prison later in the day.

The 22-year-old is the second Olympic boxer arrested in the ongoing 2016 Olympic Games in Rio for alleged rape.

The first was Moroccan boxger Hassan Saada who was arrested last Friday and accused of raping 2 house keepers.

Jonas Junius was Namibia’s flag bearer at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games.
