Ex-Black Stars coach cautions team ahead of Russia World Cup qualifiers

"The game has developed in Africa and every opponent is strong now," former Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah warns.

Ghana have been drawn in Group E alongside Egypt, Uganda and Congo Brazzaville for the final round of qualifier which will start in October.

Appiah was assistant in 2010 World Cup when Ghana reached quarter-finals in South Africa but he failed to emulate that performance in Brazil when he was the head the coach of the side as Ghana got eliminated in the first round.

“The game has developed in Africa and every opponent is strong now. If Ghana are going to qualify, then they will have to prepare for every match,” Appiah told FIFA.com.

“We can’t just rest on past achievements, no matter how glorious the past was. First and foremost, we need to take a close look at how Egypt, Uganda and Congo play and at their best players. As long as we play our best football, we’ll qualify. It’ll be a far from easy task, though.”
