The Baba Yara Sports Stadium, Kumasi and Ohene Djan Sports Stadium, Accra were renovated for the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations staged in Ghana, while the Essipong Sports Stadium, Sekondi and the Tamale Sports Stadium were built for the same purpose.

However, little attention has been paid to these facilities, since that time making them to undergo massive wear and tear, especially the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium which is closer to the sea.

But according to Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, Shatta Wale, whose music is cherished by many Ghanaians has taken it upon himself to help raise funds by embarking on a nationwide concert for repair works at the various stadia.

“Last week I received a proposal from the managers of Shatta Wale…Shatta wants to organize concerts across the country to raise funds for the rehabilitation of the Accra, Kumasi, Essipong and Tamale stadia,” the Sports Minister told Starr FM.
