Quophie, a former member of a defunct hiplife music duo, Akyeame adding his voice to the unending controversy indicated that sound engineer and music producer, Zapp Mallet deserves the ‘originator’ credit and honour.
He posted on Facebook what he calls, “The Hiplife Facts”, saying:
1. The genre was originally conceived by of Vibe FM fame.2.The first Hiplife song was produced by Zapp Mallet and Mike cook in 1994 at combined House of music. Reggie Rockstone was the rapper on that track they titled Hiplife, after also deliberating on Hi-hop as a name. The song was launched at club Makumba. Rapper Reggie Rockstone did not show up for the launch. The same song later came to be known as Chooboi.3.Mike Cooke the real grand papa,Patented the genre and therefore officially owns it.4.Hiplife is not just Twi rap. Hiplife is a musical genre fusion which takes music skill to produce. In this regard Zapp mallet deserves the credit and honor.5.The Chooboi Rap verse 1 took approximately two months to be put together. Making it the longest time needed to write a verse.
However, the ‘facts’ did not go well with Reggie Rockstone as he took to social media platform, twitter and ordered Quophie Okyeame to shut up.
The feud between the two emanated from a song Quophie wrote for Exdoe titled, which chided Reggie Rockstone for his constant use of ‘Oseikrom President’.
The seemingly laid to rest strife rekindled when Quophie Okyeame stated that Sarkodie was distorting history by claiming to be making history with his “History in The Making” concert held at the Apollo Theatre.
Quophie had said that if making history was performing at the Apollo, then Akyeame were the first Ghanaian hiplife artistes to have performed there.
But Reggie Rockstone defended Sarkodie on the basis that the rapper was the first Hiplife act to headline an event held at Apollo. He labelled Quophie as being jealous of the success chalked by Sarkodie.
