Hawker in court for abducting 20-month old baby
In the quest for fast money, a Lagos hawker tried to kidnap a toddler.
According reports, the child was said to be playing in the premises of his parents' residence at Fatai Aremu Street in the area, when the Delta State born Adavwetvwe abducted him.
It was gathered that the suspect was almost getting away with the baby before he was accosted by neighbours who asked where he was taking the child to but he told them that the baby was his.
In the process of challenging him, there was an exchange of raised voices which brought out the parents of the baby who were inside the room.
On seeing that the table was turning against him, Adavwetvwe tried to escape but he was caught and the angry mob almost lynched him but for the timely intervention of the police from the Ajegunle Police Station who rescued him and whisked him away.
Confessing his crimes to the police, Adavwetvwe said he wanted to sell the baby to one Wale residing in the Marina area of the state.
“I am a trader. I live on Agbeino Street, Olodi-Apapa. The boy did not answer me when I waved to him. I chased and carried him while he was trying to run inside. I was going to sell the baby Wale in Marina.”
