Meanwhile, Russell-Moyle’s revelation has attracted reactions from a lot of people on all social media platforms with some suggesting that he deserves commendation for being bold enough to declare his status, irrespective of his position as a lawmaker.

Briefly.co.za quoted famous talk show host, James Corden as saying: "This is unbelievably brave from Lloyd Russell Moyle. Incredible in fact. The stigma attached to HIV still sadly exists. And it’s brave men and women like him who can help all of us better understand that no one should have to hide anymore."

Stephen McGeown, who goes by the Twitter handle @StevoSF has also been quoted as saying: "HIV is no longer a life sentence. Hopefully this encourages others to get tested."
