Polytechnic Academic Staff Secondary School in Birnin Kebbi, capital of Nigeria’s Kebi state have been dismissed from the school for allegedly impregnating an SS3 student.
The dismissal of the said teachers follows a recommendation of a committee set up by the management of the school to investigate allegations of sexual misconduct against them.
A source in the school was quoted as saying: “The committee submitted a report on Monday and recommended that all the five teachers should be dismissed from service immediately.”
It added: “The management have dismissed the teachers and the victim was also expelled from the school. When the committee interrogated each of the teachers, they confessed that they have been having sexual relationship with the victim separately, so, they were sacked immediately based on the committee’s recommendations.”
It is reported that the sacked teachers have appealed against their dismissal. Vice Principal of the school, Malam Oumar Woulandakoye confirmed the development in his school to the media.
In a statement, Malam Oumar Woulandakoye said: “I will advise that you should wait till the final report of the School Board, because I just received their memo now that they are going to sit on the matter tomorrow.”
What is unclear yet is which of the five teachers is responsible for the pregnancy, because, definitely, all the five could not have been responsible for one pregnancy.
This incident in Nigeria coincides with a similar one in the Ejisuman Senior High School in the Ashanti region of Ghana which has resulted in dismissal of four teachers.
