Ghana is brimming with a rising new generation of bold, creative-thinking innovators and entrepreneurs who are constantly inventing and developing new technologies that will simplify our daily lives and transform societies-technologies with global appeal and commercial viability.

Young Ghanaian entrepreneurs are contributing to the development of new solutions to social and economic issues in Ghana.

The level of innovation has been interesting to watch, largely fueled by the equalizing nature of technology in the country.

Here are some innovators in Ghana who are changing lives.

Freda Obeng-Ampofo

Freda Ampofo holds a bachelor’s degree in International Affairs and Economics and a Master’s in Public Affairs from the prestigious Sciences, Po, in Paris.

She is a Global Public Policy professional with a Regional Focus on Africa and the genius behind the amazing body care line, KAEME.

Wanjo creates, juices, syrups, jams, preserves and sauces out of indigenous spices, herbs and veggies.

Yaganoma holds a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Ghana and an MLitt in Managing Creative Industries from the University of St. Andrews, Scotland.

Sesinam Dagadu

Sesinam Dagadu is an IT professional.

In Ghana, finding your way around can be a challenge. Since properties often don’t have a house number or name and street signs are rarely visible, local landmarks like bars, banks or even trees are used instead to help people find their way.

Dagadu wants to change how people get around, putting an end to the confusion faced by everyone from ambulance drivers, to bus drivers, taxis and couriers.

The SnoopCode app generates a unique code for every property in Ghana, pinpointing each specific location with GPS technology.

Mr Dagadu studied engineering at university in the UK, but returned home in between completing his undergraduate and master’s degrees.

Once you have your new address, in the form of the code, you enter it into the app’s mapping service to find the best route.

Dr. James Ransford Dankwah

He is a senior lecturer at the University of Mines and Technology (UMAT) at Tarkwa.

He is noted for recycling waste bakelite as a carbon resource in iron making and turns them into diesel and aviation (jet) fuel.

Laboratory studies on the production of diesel shows the de-polymerisation of waste plastics to produce liquid fuel (diesel).

Charles Ofori Antipem

Charles Ofori is the inventor of Science Set, an inexpensive, portable and highly scalable science lab that can fit in a student’s bag or on a desk top. With the affordable mini-science lab.

Antipem and his team hope to transform the state of education in Ghana and the rest of Africa by making the kit widely available to students, which in turn will hopefully show them first-hand that science can be both fun and exciting.
