As the festive season inches closer, the need to include bright and shiny things in your wardrobe and beauty kit becomes inevitable. But before you go ahead and splurge on your sparkling shadows and lacquers, keep in mind these cardinal rules of make-up for traditional parties, with help from Lancôme India’s national make-up artist, Stafford Braganza.

Prep your skin well with a good moisturiser. A smooth base is very important, like an even, blank canvas is required to create a masterpiece.
Use a concealer to correct any discolouration or dark circles under your eyes.
Keep the emphasis on your eyes when going for a natural look. Always think of eyeshadow as a step-by-step process. Gradually build layers by beginning with light colours on the inner corner of the eyelid, and then play with dark colours to create intensity. Don’t worry if colour falls onto your cheeks while you’re applying eyeshadow, use a touch of a BB base and dab over the dust to perfectly cover your face.
Apply blush, it just lights up your face and is crucial for creating structure on the face. Gently build up the blush little by little on both cheeks to ensure an even look.
Try deep maroon or burgundy lipsticks; the colour works well with the warm Indian skin tone.

DON’T

Layer two foundations together to achieve your look. Less is always more.
Forget that a foundation that’s three shades lighter than your own will not look natural.
Choose a loud-coloured blush. Keep it soft and let it complement your skin tone.
Choose a lipstick that is too bright. Opt for a long-lasting gloss instead.
