England's Jos Buttler not giving up on Test cricket

Jos Buttler rates "extra special" Test cricket as the pinnacle, but knows he may have to bide his time to earn an England recall

Jos Buttler does not expect to regain his place in the England Test side for the foreseeable future, but the wicketkeeper-batsman has no intention of just concentrating on one-day cricket.

Buttler was dropped during the series defeat against Pakistan in the United Arab Emirates last year, with Jonny Bairstow replacing him.

Bairstow scored his maiden Test century in the recent series victory in South Africa as Buttler watched his team-mates seal a 2-1 win over the Proteas.

Buttler has established himself as a key player for his country in the one-day and Twenty20 sides, but is eager to force his way back into the Test fold.

He said: "There's an extra emphasis on one-day cricket now, but I still feel Test cricket is the pinnacle and I don't want to throw the towel in on red-ball cricket yet.

"The emotions and feelings of winning a Test are hard to match and I don't think we'll experience them in one-day cricket unless we win a World Cup.

"Having had a taste of Test cricket I still feel it's the best form of the game, especially in England because of the support we receive. It's extra special."

Buttler has been given the green light to showcase his talents in the Indian Premier League for the first time this year and the 25-year-old is eagerly awaiting the auction next weekend.

He said: "You're a piece of meat in an auction, aren't you? There are no guarantees of getting a franchise, but it's a competition I would love to be part of."
