FIFA have released its shortlist for the 2015 Ballon d’Or and it features only one African.
Ivory Coast and Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure is the only African player included in the 23-man shortlist.
Gone are the days when we are often represented by the likes of Samuel Eto’o and Didier Drogba, these days, no African player is making its mark in the biggest level of club football, the UEFA Champions League.
There are a few mentions like the likes of Serge Aurier, but Yaya Toure still remains the best African footballer currently.
He has won the four past editions of the CAF African Player of the Year award and is favourite to land his fifth in next year’s ceremony.
Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo is the winner the past two editions of the Ballon d’Or but could lose out this time to favourite, Lionel Messi.
