Nana Addo hits back at Mahama over LMVCA brutalities comments

He said the police cannot be the judges in their courts especially when they have justified the atrocities meted out to innocent citizens

The New Patriotic Party flagbearer Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has criticised President John Mahama’s directive to the police to investigate last Thursday’s brutalities meted out to demonstrators.

He said the police cannot be the judges in their courts especially when they have justified the atrocities meted out to innocent citizens.

He is convinced the police will not do any good job in unravelling the truth behind the attacks.

Nana Addo was speaking to constituency executives as part of his Rise and Build Tour of the Northern Region.

The Police administration came under heavy criticism for what some describe as the brutish manner in which it handled demonstrators seeking a new voter's register.

The police fired rubber bullets, tear gas, hot water and in some cases manhandled some of the demonstrators.

One of the demonstrators now has one of  his eyes completely damaged.

Addressing the chiefs and people of the Asogli Traditional Area in Ho to climax their annual Yam Festival, the president  John Mahama condemned the action of the police.

He said the rights of the citizens must be guarded and protected at all times and asked the police to launch an investigation into the matter.

But the opposition flagbearer, Nana Akufo Addo is unhappy with the directive.

Having already called for an independent investigation into the matter, Akufo-Addo believes the call by the president will not yield any results.
