National Service coordinator commits suicide

One of the 23 people who are involved in the National Service Scheme corruption scandal has hanged himself to death.

The body of  Suhum Municipal National Service Coordinator, Lambert Akansah was found hanging on a tree in his compound over the weekend. Reasons for his action is not immediately known but it has been linked it to the GHC 7.9 million consumption scandal, of which Mr Akansah was implicated.

Mr. Akansah named as one of the 23 people to have engaged in various levels of financial malpractices resulting in their suspension for investigations to continue, including the then head of the service Alhaji Imoro Alhassan, who was sacked and arrested to help in investigations.

The Osu Doku Police Commander, ASP Francis Ackah said "when we got to his home in Somanya, he was hanging on a tree. Some people were saying he looked worried in the past few days but nobody knew what the problem was media.

"There are rumors that his involvement in the National Service corruption problem may be the reason but we can't say for certain if that is the reason. We have started investigations. A postmortem would be carried out on Monday to ascertain the cause of death" he added.
