Ghanaians have been asked not to panic following fears of bird flu and its safety on chicken and other poultry products ahead of the Christmas festivities.
She assured Ghanaians that the birds being sold on the markets are safe for consumption.
“There is no cause for alarm at all. People can freely go to the market and purchase their birds. You’re not even going to get a single bed alive or any bird that will survive for it to find itself on the market… If the virus hits your farm, if you have 100, 000 birds, you’re going to lose them in a matter of two days. All these birds are healthy to consume,” she told Accra-based Citi FM.
The recent outbreak of bird flu in Accra and Tema created fear and panic among consumers who are not sure of buying chicken and other poulty products for the yuletide.
The Agric ministry has however indicated that the recent outbreaks on some farms in Accra and Tema have been reduced.
