Exhale Lounge’s excessive noise and smoke posing danger to residents of East Legon

Residents of the Garden Street near A&C Shopping Mall, East Legon, have expressed concern about the continuous high-level nuisance noise and smoke from Exhale Lounge (pub and restaurant).

Exhale Lounge

Exhale Lounge is a neigbourhood bar and night club, deep within the heart of East Legon and it's opened from 5pm till 4am daily. Their operation attracts an astoundingly curious mixture of clientel and the high noise levels and smoke emanating from Exhale adversely affect public health and the environment. They have been in operation for about three years now.

In an interview with Pulse.com.gh, the residents say the level of noise which emanates from Exhale Lounge exceeds the acceptable level and the smoke also poses a serious risk to the health.

According to the residents they have so far engaged the East Legon Police , the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the Municipal Assembly to intervene in the matter but all their efforts have proved futile, as these state authorities have been unable to stop this nuisance.

The EPA’s assessment report on the situation revealed that Exhale Lounge was flouting the laws of the land and had no operational permit and their presence was therefore a health and environment nuisance to the people in the area.

A copy of the EPA findings made available to Pulse.com.gh also indicated “the higher noise emanating from Exhale Lounge could adversely affect public health and the environment”.

The equivalent noise levels recorded at all the monitoring sites/locations at the time of assessment were unsatisfactory. The noise levels recorded were higher than the recommended limit of 48dB (A),” the EPA report stated.

One of the residents who spoke with Pulse.com.gh on anonymity said they have on several occasions confronted the owner of the Pub, to at least reduce the noise and smoke levels but, all their efforts went unheeded.

The unhappy residents also added that patrons/customers of ExhaleLounge park their cars anyhow in-front of their facilities.

They allege that the owner of the pub is backed by powerful persons in the country.

EPA puts permissible ambient noise levels in residential areas at 55 decibels (db) during the day and 48 db at night.

Those at and around educational health facilities was put at 55 db during the day and 50 db at night, while the noise level for areas with commercial or light industrial activities was registered 60 db and 55 db during the day and night respectively.
