Govt to provide 'stimulus package' for Organised Labour

Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Haruna Iddrisu made this known at a meeting with Organised Labour on Thursday at the Flagstaff House.

Organised Labour is being asked to send in a formal request to the Ministry of Finance for government to consider some financial stimulus support for workers in the wake of hikes in utility tariffs and taxes.

Organised Labour, including the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Ghana Employers’ Association and the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union on Wednesday embarked on a nationwide demonstration to demand withdrawal of the energy sector levy as well as a reduction in utility tariffs.

Government has subsequently, at a meeting with Organised Labour proposed a financial package for them.
