Chief declares victory for Mahama

The Omanhene of Ajumako Bisease Nana Okofo Kwakora said President Mahama will be the victor in the 2016 election because of the several developmental projects he has undertaken in his community.

President John Mahama will win the 2016 general elections. This is according to the Omanhene of Ajumako Bisease in the Western region.

He explained that President Mahama will win because of his “sterling” performance in office.

Nana Okofo Kwakora made this statement at the annual festival of the people of Ajumako.

Even though President Mahama was not present at the festival, the chief gave an assurance that he and his subjects will do all within their power to ensure he wins the 2016 elections.

Nana Okofo Kwakora explained President Mahama will enjoy a second term because of the several developmental projects he has brought to his community.

He further asked President Mahama to disregard his critics since he was certain he will enjoy a second term in office.

The chief said he would have been very happy if President Mahama had made it to the festival.

“I was abroad but decided to return for the festival because of the President. It is unfortunate that he could not make it for this event; I would have danced with him on the floor today for all to see how we appreciate him," he said.

Meanwhile the Minister of Chieftancy and Traditional Affairs Dr. Seidu Daanaa earlier called on traditional rulers to refrain from endorsing presidential candidates of various political parties ahead of the December polls.

He said“the ministry will keep reminding that this shouldn’t be done. Proverbially if you have two sons you can recommend one, but not openly. It is not something that should be encouraged, it should be discouraged”.

A debate over the participation of chiefs and traditional leaders in active politics has been ongoing for a while. Especially considering the provision of Article 276 Clause 1 of the 1992 constitution which states that, “A chief shall not take part in active party politics; and any chief wishing to do so and seeking election to Parliament shall abdicate his stool or skin”.
