Assin Central Member of Parliament Kennedy Agyapong has described as excruciating economic difficulties under the government of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He said Ghanaians are ending the year with nothing to celebrate Christmas and described it as a 'dry' season.

Speaking on Adom TV, the maverick politician said "What kind of dry Christmas is this? I promised my constituents but I won’t go there this Christmas because I don't have money."

His comments come at the back of the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Ms Christine Lagarde, who said the economy is in a better place under the government than it was two years ago.

She said the IMF-supported programme had been an anchor for orderly economic adjustment and a positive signal to the market.

She underscored the need for Ghana "to preserve those gains" for the progress of the country and the citizens in particular.

But Kennedy Agyapong disagreed and said the economy is dry adding that the IMF cannot take decisions for Ghanaians.

He urged the government to enact policies that will reflect in the pocket of the ordinary Ghanaians.
