Assembly members make u-turn over impeachment of Tamale Mayor

In a Facebook post on Sunday, the Mayor revealed that some assembly members have called him privately to apologise to him for accusing him of corruption and awarding contracts without recourse to them.

"Some of you 'Honourables' are unbelievably 'smart'" he said.

He added: "Just render a public unqualified apology to me and stop talking to me in private or go ahead to impeach. You lied to damage my reputation but I stood firm, challenged and exposed you. In whatever I do, Allah is my guide and guard."

Last week, 31 out of the 58-member assembly signed a petition to impeach the Mayor.

The members stated that the Mayor is mismanaging the "Assembly’s meagre resources by paying his self-appointed personal assistants each at GH¢1,400".

They accused the Mayor of "constituting and paying 61 members non-functional Task Force which cost the Assembly GH¢9, 150."

In the petition, the Members said the Mayor has been "disregarding and disrespecting Assembly Members."
